Couples & Engagement Photography
in Columbia, MO
Good photos of the two of you shouldn't require a special occasion.
Whether you just got engaged, have been married for thirty years, or just want some great photos together, a couples session is worth doing. I photograph all kinds of couples in Columbia and throughout Mid-Missouri: newly engaged, long married, marking a milestone, or simply wanting to document this season of life before it passes.
Sessions are relaxed, low-pressure, and planned around the two of you: your locations, your vibe, your people (pets included). No stiff posing, no awkward standing-and-smiling. Just you two, looking like yourselves, on a good day.

Engagement Photography in Columbia, MO
You just got engaged! Congratulations!
Now someone is going to tell you that you need engagement photos, and honestly? They're right, but maybe not for the reasons you think.
Yes, they're great for save-the-dates and announcements. But more than that, an engagement session is a chance to get comfortable in front of a camera before your wedding day, try out a location you love, and end up with photos that capture this specific moment — just the two of you, before everything gets busy and complicated with planning.
Engagement sessions in Columbia, MO are usually an hour, at one or two locations that mean something to you or just look beautiful together. Mizzou's campus, downtown Columbia, Shelter Gardens, Grindstone, Rock Bridge — there's no shortage of great spots. We'll pick what fits your style. Bring your dog if you want. Wear something you feel good in. Show up and enjoy it — I'll handle the rest.
"Kat recently took our engagement photos, and she was fantastic! She captured all the shots I had in mind and some creative photos I never would have thought of. She also went to great lengths to make sure we got every shot we wanted. Throughout the whole booking process she was very responsive, and she was extremely quick in returning the photos to us. Absolutely beautiful work!" - Chelsey

Proposal Photography in Columbia, MO — I've Got You Covered
Planning a proposal is stressful enough without also trying to figure out how to get photos of the moment. The good news: this is something I've done before, and there are two ways we can make it work depending on what fits your situation.
Option 1
The full surprise She has no idea I'm there. You let me know the plan: the location, the timing, roughly how it's going to go. And I'll be there early, out of sight, and ready. I'll capture everything from the moment she arrives, the look on her face when you get down on one knee, and the reaction you've been imagining. Once the moment happens, I come out and we spend another 20 minutes or so getting portraits together: ring detail shots, the happy chaos right after, any family members who are in on it. It's one of my favorite things to photograph.
Option 2
The "we're just taking couples photos" proposal This one works surprisingly well, and it solves a problem a lot of people have: she wants to look good in the photos. With this option, she knows she's coming to a couples session and she's dressed, her hair is done, she's expecting a fun afternoon with her camera-shy partner. What she doesn't know is what's about to happen. I'll pose you naturally, get her looking one direction, and quietly signal you when the moment is right. You drop to one knee. I tell her to turn around. The look on her face is completely real and so are the photos.
Either way, you show up with a plan and I help you execute it. Reach out and we'll figure out which option makes the most sense for the two of you.

"Kat was amazing. She helped guide us through our special day to make the memory last a lifetime. Can’t give a higher recommendation." - Brandon

Couples Photography in Columbia, MO — No Reason Required
Not every couples session needs an occasion. Some of my favorite sessions have been couples who just wanted good photos together — and didn't have a wedding or engagement on the horizon.
Maybe you've been married for twenty-five years and have exactly zero photos of the two of you that aren't from someone else's phone at someone else's event. Maybe you got married a couple years ago and this is basically your version of family photos — just the two of you, or the two of you and the dogs. Maybe you just bought your first house together and want to mark the moment. Maybe your anniversary is coming up and you want to actually do something with it.
All of those are great reasons to book a session. So is "we just want photos." I photograph couples throughout Columbia and Mid-Missouri for all of these reasons and more — relaxed outdoor sessions, golden hour portraits, in-home lifestyle sessions. If it's the two of you and you want photos that look like the two of you, that's enough.
"Kat was incredible to work with. She kept us at ease during our photoshoot and was incredibly helpful in guiding us through multiple props and locations. From start to finish, Kat made the process seamless and enjoyable. We had a blast during our session and loved the end result. I recommend her for any of your professional photography needs!" - Allee

Small Weddings & Elopements in Columbia, MO
Not every wedding is a 200-person production, and honestly, some of the best ones aren't.
If you're planning something small and meaningful right here in Columbia, I'd love to be there. Courthouse weddings, backyard ceremonies, micro weddings with just your closest people, elopements at a location that matters to you: these are the kinds of celebrations I love photographing most. There's something about a small wedding where every single person in the room actually matters to the couple. The emotion is right there on the surface, and the photos show it.
I'm Columbia-based and don't travel for weddings, which means I know this city's best spots, best light, and how to make a short ceremony feel complete and fully documented. Current availability for weddings is limited — I take on a small number each year, and I focus on shorter celebrations of five hours or less. If that sounds like your kind of day, reach out early.
Elopements are also absolutely something I photograph. Whether it's just the two of you and an officiant at a spot you love, or a small gathering that feels more like a party than a ceremony — if it's intimate and in Columbia or the surrounding area, let's talk.

"We had Kat photograph our civil wedding ceremony and take portraits of us with our pets. Kat was great to work with and was very clear about how the process would work from start to finish! And, of course, we absolutely love our photos!" - Mallory

Where do you shoot?
Columbia has some genuinely beautiful spots for couples sessions — and I know most of them well. Downtown Columbia offers brick, texture, and an easy mix of polished and relaxed looks. Mizzou's campus is a classic for a reason. Shelter Gardens, Grindstone Nature Area, and Stephen's Lake Park all have great options for something more natural and outdoorsy. And if you have somewhere that's meaningful to the two of you — where you had your first date, where you got engaged, somewhere that's just yours — that's always worth considering.
