Family Photography Sessions

Good photos of your family shouldn't feel like a big stressful thing.
But somehow they always do, right? Coordinating outfits, wrangling kids, hoping nobody melts down before the good light hits — it's a lot. I get it, and it's kind of my whole job to make it easier.
I'm Kat, a family photographer based in Columbia, MO, and I've spent years figuring out how to get genuine, relaxed photos of real families, not stiff posed lineups, but the stuff that actually looks like you. Laughing, running, piling on top of each other. The moments you'll want to look back on ten years from now.
Whether you're booking your first family session or you come back every fall, I'll help you plan it, figure out what to wear, pick a location that fits your family, and make the whole thing as easy as possible.

Every family looks a little different. That's the whole point.
Some families want a classic outdoor session at golden hour: everyone in coordinating outfits, beautiful fall light, the works. Some want something more relaxed and lifestyle-driven, at home or somewhere meaningful to them. Some just need updated photos of the kids before another year flies by. All of it works.
Here's a look at what I photograph for families in Columbia and the surrounding Mid-Missouri area:
-
Full family sessions — Everyone together, from a family of three to extended family reunions. Outdoor locations, in-home sessions, or a mix of both.
-
Kids and children's portraits — Just the kids, at whatever age they're at right now. Babies, toddlers, school age, all of the above at once. These go fast.
-
Newborn and fresh 48 sessions — Welcoming a new baby is a big deal. Newborn sessions are relaxed, at-home lifestyle sessions that capture those tiny details before they're gone.
-
Baby milestones — 3 months, 6 months, cake smash, first birthday. Every stage is worth documenting and they change so fast it's hard to keep up.
-
Seasonal and holiday sessions — Fall photos, Christmas card photos, spring sessions. These are a great way to keep your family photos current year after year without it feeling like a big undertaking every time.
-
Birthdays and anniversaries — If you need a reason to book a session, a birthday or anniversary is a great one. Bring balloons, bring champagne, bring whatever makes it feel like a celebration.
-
Families with pets — Yes, bring the dog. Pets are family too and some of my favorite sessions have included a very enthusiastic golden retriever.
If you're not sure what kind of session fits your family, just reach out — I'm happy to help you figure it out.

Where do you shoot?
Columbia has some genuinely beautiful spots for family photos — parks, trails, open fields, downtown areas, and more. I also do in-home lifestyle sessions if that feels more like you. If you already have a location in mind, great. If you have no idea, I'll help you find something that fits your family's vibe and the time of year.
Have questions before you book?
Things like what to wear, how long sessions take, what happens if it rains, whether your toddler needs to cooperate (they don't) — I've answered all of it.
