Questions About Booking a Photography Session?
Booking a photography session can come with a lot of questions — especially if you haven’t had professional photos taken in a while (or ever). What should you wear? What if the weather changes? What if your kids are chaotic? What if you feel awkward in front of the camera?

Don’t worry — you’re definitely not the first person to ask.

This page walks through the most common questions about sessions, scheduling, locations, turnaround times, printing, and more so you can feel prepared and confident before your session even starts.

And honestly? You don’t need to know how to pose or “be good at photos.” That’s my job.
- 01
I provide photography services in Columbia, Missouri and the surrounding areas. Locations more than 10 miles away may require a travel fee, depending on distance and session type.
Â
Yes, I do have a small studio space that’s perfect for small family sessions, portraits, and headshots. The studio allows for both indoor images and nearby outdoor options. That said, most of my work takes place on location.
On-location sessions create a relaxed atmosphere and give us beautiful, varied backgrounds. We can shoot at a local park, downtown Columbia, the Mizzou campus, your home, office, or another meaningful location. I bring professional lighting and can create beautiful portraits just about anywhere.
If a location requires permission or a rental fee, that arrangement would need to be made in advance — but I’m always happy to help guide you through it.

Every session is fully customized around you.

Whether you’re booking a wedding, family session, branding portraits, or headshots, I tailor the entire experience to your needs.Â
Before your session, we’ll connect by email, phone, or in person to talk through:
- Type of session
- Length of time
- Location ideas
- Print or product needs
- Any special requests
If you’re unsure about anything, we’ll figure it out together.
During the session, I’ll guide you through natural posing while keeping things relaxed. You’re welcome to change outfits if you’d like, and I’ll occasionally show you images on the back of the camera so we can make adjustments together.
For weddings and events, I’ll follow your timeline and capture both key moments and requested portraits. If you choose to add a second photographer, we’ll cover multiple angles — and I personally edit all final images so your gallery has a consistent look.
After your session, I carefully curate and individually edit your best images in both color and black & white.
Turnaround time:
Sessions: up to 4 weeks
Weddings & events: up to 6 weeks
If you need them sooner, just let me know and we’ll see what’s possible.
The entire process is designed to feel thoughtful, easy, and personal

Sessions start at $275 for a 30-minute session and $400 for a full hour. Business, branding, and headshot sessions start at $200 for a studio headshot. All sessions include every beautifully edited image from your shoot delivered via private online gallery — no selecting from a limited set, no per-image fees. Full pricing details are available on the services page.

Choosing outfits doesn’t have to be stressful — I promise.
I generally recommend coordinating rather than matching. Neutral tones with one or two complementary colors tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you. Avoid large logos or busy patterns, and choose clothing you feel comfortable and confident in.
Layers, texture, and subtle accessories can add interest without overwhelming the image. And if you’re planning multiple outfits, we can absolutely work that into your session.

If you’re still unsure, send me photos of what you’re considering — I’m happy to help you decide.

Absolutely.
If you already have a meaningful location in mind, I’m happy to meet you there. If you’re unsure, I can recommend spots based on the look and feel you’re going for — natural and wooded, open fields, urban, downtown Columbia, Mizzou campus, and more.
I’ve created a full location guide with examples and details!
We’ll choose a setting that fits your personality, your session type, and the time of year.

My availability is always kept up to date on my Session Scheduling page.
The online scheduling tool makes it quick and easy to select a date and time that works for you. It even factors in the time of year and sunset times to help ensure you’re booking during the best light for beautiful photos.
If you don’t see a time that works or have a special scheduling request, feel free to reach out — I’m always happy to see what we can arrange.
- 07
Life happens — and I want you to look comfortable and happy in your photos.
If the weather isn’t ideal, we have options. Light rain can actually be beautiful (umbrella sessions can be so fun), and we can also look for covered locations or adjust timing. If it’s extremely cold, storming, or just not workable, we can reschedule.
If you’re sick, your kids are sick, or something unexpected comes up, please let me know as soon as possible. As long as I have advance notice, rescheduling is not a problem. I don’t want anyone pushing through illness or miserable conditions — that’s not good for you or me.
We’ll always find a solution that works.

Yes. All sessions and events require a digital contract.
The contract outlines the details of your session — location, date, hours of coverage, pricing — and protects both of us by clearly defining expectations and policies, including delivery timelines.
It also includes a model release that allows me to share your images (in a non-defamatory way) on my website and social media so future clients can see examples of my work.
A small discount is built into my rates for clients who sign the model release. If you prefer your images remain private, I completely respect that. A privacy option is available for an additional $40 per hour.
You’re always encouraged to read your contract carefully and ask any questions before signing.
If you'd like to see a sample contract:

Your edited high-resolution images will be delivered through a private online gallery.
From your gallery you can:
- View
- Favorite
- Download
- Share
- Order prints
You may download your entire gallery or individual images directly to your device or Dropbox.

Galleries are private. Only those with the link (or invited by you) can access the images. Keep in mind, if you post your access link on social media, etc., anyone who can see your social media will have access to your images.
Feel free to mark favorite photos to share with family, for your own future reference, or to let me know which ones to use in an album design.

The number of final images depends on your session length, number of outfit changes, locations, and the overall flow of the session.
Rather than limiting you to a set number, I deliver all of the best, non-duplicate images from your session. Every photo is carefully curated and individually edited in both color and black & white.
Shorter sessions naturally result in fewer images, while longer sessions or events (like weddings) will produce significantly more. If you have questions about what to expect for your specific session type, just ask — I’m happy to give you a general estimate.

Prints can be ordered directly from your online gallery and shipped to your home.
Simply select an image, choose your product and size, adjust your crop, and submit your order. I personally review each order before it goes to my professional lab to ensure everything looks perfect.
My lab offers archival-quality paper and consistent color accuracy. While you’re welcome to use your own lab (a print release is included), I can only guarantee quality from my selected professional lab.
Custom albums, canvases, invitations, and specialty products are also available upon request.

If you ever feel stuck, I’m happy to help guide you.

Each year I donate up to five 30-minute session gift certificates for qualifying charity events, raffles, or auctions.
These sessions are typically redeemable within one year and may be held at the KatFour Photo studio, Grindstone Nature Area, or Nifong Park. Extended sessions or alternate locations may be available by arrangement.
I also occasionally volunteer photography services for select organizations, depending on availability.
If you’re affiliated with a nonprofit or hosting an event, feel free to reach out and we can discuss options.
